POWDER SNOW AREAS
GROOMED SNOW AREAS
The main factor that causes snow quality to deteriorate is the melting of snow due to increases in temperature. A comparison of temperatures at world-class snow resorts proves the quality of YAKEBI snow.
Of the 500 or so ski fields in Japan, just a mere 2.5% can boast of being at a height of 2,000 m or more.
The awesome quality of the snow created by this rare environment captivates powder freaks from all over the world. People who have experienced YAKEBI all say things like “I never knew the quality of snow could be so different!”
Each time snow passes through a cloud it picks up impurities in the form of cloud droplets. YAKEBI is located at such a high altitude that the snow passes through less cloud, and therefore has fewer impurities, leaving it crystal clear.
One interesting characteristic of snow is that the more humid it is, the more snow there is, but quality deteriorates. The drier it is, the better the snow quality, but the less snow there is. Yakebitaiyama is located just far enough inland to achieve both excellent snow quality and abundant snowfall.
YAKEBI is like an F1 circuit without a single loose pebble, making it perfectly safe.
Even if a skier were to try a high-speed turn at 100 km/h, YAKEBI’s groomed snow would not give any cause for concern. We take no compromise and we spare no time or effort along the way to ensuring that our snow is absolutely THE BEST!
At YAKEBI, we have introduced the Master Snow Groomer System to ensure we can maintain consistently high levels of snow compaction on our slopes. Snow groomer operators regularly receive instruction from Master Snow Groomers, who also check their practical skills.
We only allow Master Snow Groomers to groom our flagship A4 Olympic Trail, where the 1998 Nagano Olympics were held. Great attention to detail is required in terms of timing, depth, and pressure to create a uniformly packed silk-like surface, and these factors all vary depending on the season and temperature.
At YAKEBI, experienced Master Snow Groomers care for Trails that require a higher degree of grooming skill, such as steep slopes, while newer employees are given the opportunity to hone their skills on easier Trails. This system ensures that work is assigned according to skill in such a way that the condition of the slopes is always maintained to a consistently high standard.
We regularly conduct quality checks on the ski slopes. We evaluate pressure joints and bumps on a five-point scale, and provide feedback to each operator to ensure thorough quality control.
To ensure that our guests experience the best ski run of their lives the following day, our snow-grooming team works tirelessly behind the scenes to prioritize the needs of our guests. Though the difference in quality may seem insignificant, YAKEBI’s snow-groomer operators never compromise.
